Rule of Thumb,
If U're the original owner of the car, do NOT ever trade it in.
U always get beaten down (no matter what).
U get better value selling outside.

U trade ur car in for one of the following reasons:
1) Ur car has a lot of troubles.
2) U're just lazy, do not want to deal with public, and do not care about losing some $$$.

In some States, you save the Sales tax with trade-in amount so you have to take this into consideration as well.

Of course, Stealership has to make money because they have to find the buyer for the trade-in vehicle and who knows how long that would take.

Just a TIP: Don't tell them that you have a trade-in. Let negotiate the price for the new car, when both parties agree on the price, tell them you want to trade your car in. That way don't can't "PLAY" you the price game because sometimes they can give you a very good Trade-in but at the same time they jack up the price of their vehicle.
