1) If you checked your cable and every seem fine, then it might be the router. The reason is the other three computers have more priority then the sony or the router is too busy sending/accepting request from other three. So the sony will keep trying to send request but the rounter is not replying. (lower ip address, has more priority)
2) I think you need to delete the temporary internet folder too in order to clear your track.
3) Yes you can use the network and yes they will know who connected to the network if the company have a dhcp server running.

1a. switch the connect with other PC. If you experience the same problem then it is probably the NIC card or some setting in the PC.
1b. swtich the cable with other PC's cable to check if the cable is good.
1c. Is the speed and the duplex setting on the NIC correct? Some NIC cards will not work well with speed and duplex negotiation. You may want to manually set the SONY's NIC card to 100mB full duplex.
1d. I am not sure but check the RT314 to see if one port is shared. Some company share the 4th port with other connection and cause heavy data collision.
2. Deleted history and cookie are temporary. Even if you flush the recycle bin. But your company security specialist can recover them easily for court purpose and you don't even know about it. The best way is download some freeware such as PGP wipe or Norton Erase that really wipe out the files in the directory.
3. If DHCP is used at your company and Netgear RT314. You still need to change the DHCP server and DNS server in your network set up. If not you just have to manually change the IP address, Default router, DNS server, and may be WINS server and domain name.

You can use some stuffs to delete all, no track leaves. But one thing you don't know: while you are surfing, chatting... your boss (or network technicial) sits in his buro and watches your PC as he stands by you (if he wants !!!). He knows if you are downloading some Hoa Hau HongKong's pics...
