Well.. let's cut it short. When you buy a digital camera, the larger Mega pixel, the better your image quality. The market right now has 6 mega pixel which is really good. Let's just imagine that professional runs at over 10 mega pixel. So we are getting there. But what is pixel? Pixel is just a little dots on your image. If you zoom in real close on your image, you can see the pixel. The more pixel you have, the better your image. But buy 3 or 4 mega pixel is good enough. I prefer 6 mega pixel or 4 mega. (6 mega pixel is equivalent to the picture you process at the store)
- Second is media. There are a lot of media like memory stick. Smartmedia... etc... It's all up to you to choose to type. But I hated memory stick from sony. It's bulky and expensive. I prefer Smartmedia
- Third is Zooming. The more "X" zoom power, the more flexibility to take picture. They range from 3x to 6x. I prefer 6x if you can.
- Third is connectivity with a computer. Don't ever buy a cameria with serial port connection to computer. buy a USB one. It's faster. Of course with media reader, it won't be an issue. But you have to spend around 30 dollars for a drive.
Printers:
It doesn't make sense if you have a nice camera but a sucks printer. Printers are cheap right now. Buy a good one. Printer is easy. Buy one with 2400-1200 dpi capability (dot per inch). It's around 150 dollars. Don't buy the one with "4800x2400-Optimized dpi". It's kinda waist of money and you are not going to gain much. The company is trying to "trick" consumer by claiming their product can print at 4800x2400 pdi. What is that mean? The 2400x1200, that is the actual dots the printer is going to print on paper. The 4800x2400-optimized version, it supposed to print a dot that only 50% smaller than a previous version (The smaller the dot, the finer your picture). What the manufacturer did was to overlap those dots on each other instead of reduce the size of the dots. In conclusion, just buy the 2400x1200 dpi printer.
I hope it helps...

I recommend Nikon D100 (I currently own one)
If U are a Nikon fan (like me), D100 use all lens of 35mm camera (save U lots of money for lens)

Yup... If you are a professional or know what you are doing. Then get a camera that has "interchangeable lenses". Of course, this kind of camera is really nice and spendy. I've seen a Canon (I think) around $1100

I have a Fuji FinePix S602 digital camera. Good looking black color. It's 3.1 MegaPixel. I paid for $799. It accepts both Smart Media and CompactFlash Type II cards.
Olympia Camedia C2100 ($399) and Fuji Finepix 2800 ($379) both are 2.1 MegaPixel-good cameras
take a Canon PowerShot G1 or G2 if you have a good budget :)
no Sony it sucks!!!

mrbean71,
http://megapixel.net
is a good website for doing research on new and old digital cameras.
The site also has a link under "prices" that you can check for internet purchase. Each month they normally evaluate 4,5 digital cameras.

This guy is a very good professional photographer, but I think some of the photo samples in his web site are TOO PRETTY, all of them, not even with real camera, and aren't shot with a production camera. For example, I bought the MX-2900 because I saw his photos, but the quality came out terrible, no matter what.
I think Steves-digicam got better & honest reviews http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm. He uses the same buildings and scenes with real cameras for comparison while it seems like the other guy just took his girl asian friend/model out for fun and sight seeing on vacation trips .
