Hello các anh chị em,
What do you think is the best time for us to complete our home assignments? I tried many methods before, but don't really know which one is the most effective. I did the assignments in that subject class or another class, during lunch break, immediately after I got home from school, after watching a few TV shows and ate some snacks, after dinner, before going to bed, wake up in the middle of the night, wake up early to do it, during homeroom, and in class before it's due.
Bro's and sis think which is the best time? And what's the best way to complete home assignments? Should I do all of them at once, or take a break every 20-30 minutes intervals? Is it ok to lay down on the counch or bed to read or should I sit on my chair at a desk to do the readings?
School starts for me on Tuesday, I should've posted this earlier but I just got the idea today. Any brothers and sisters who have any ideas or tips on completing homework, I would greatly appriciate it! If you have the best studying habit, please share it with me. Also, my memory is not very very great. Sometimes I would go to a room and found out that I don't even remember why I went there in the first place :( I struggle with remembering facts, data, formula all the time.
Thanks for helping me out,
NTV the lost dude.

In my experience, I found that to study better, depend on the habit that you have been study. For instance, when I study I usually lie on my bed, cannot sit while studying. Plus I cannot study in the library, study room, cafeteria, etc.. but I could study in the classroom in which the instructors are lecturing. :) I usually study at home late at night in which after I took a shower then begin to study and do my homework until I finish everything. Usually it is very hard for us to focus on something so that the first 1/2 hours usually doesn't get anything. After that you can really study, so do not take a break when you are in studying, and please don't study in front of the television, or listen to music when you are studying because it is very easy for you to lose your focus.

for me i only start from 8 or 9pm till i'm done with everything and i always turn on the music when i do my homework except when i try to read and remember something. Otherwhile, i always listen to music when i do homework cause it makes my mind relax sometimes i just stop and humming to the song for a few minutes and then get back to it. sometime i found a new ways to solve my problems when i listen to the music. try that maybe it could work for u i'm not sure

if your memory is not that great, you should make summary's, it will help you a lot. I always make summary's, especially when you have to read a lot. I can only study till 10pm, after that it won't work for me.

Different people have different habbits. I can not study on the bed like QT, or I will doze off. I like to force myself to go to the library while I was in college ( I lived off campus, but I biked in about 15 min).
Best time probably from 9 pm to 12 p.m, after you have eaten dinner, took a bath, relaxed, watched some T.v to satisfy your cravings and curiousity :p . Usually my mind shut off after midnight.
If I have finals or tests, I usually get up at 3 and study to 7 A.m before heading off to class again.
I'm a very good memorizer with data facts , and concepts, but a very non-problem solving type . So for me in technical classes like math, physics, statistics, etc... I found myself spending so much time writing down cheat sheets...they allowed 1-2 pages of cheat sheets in colleges. but the thing is I wrote so small, so by the time the test start, I had a hard time reading my own hand writings :p
Some people learn by doing practice problems before tests & it helped them. It never helped me any. I can solve the problem for that moment in time, after that, my mind completely shut off and forget everything I've learned.
Lost Dude, to memorize data the best ways to do it is to outline
You define the concepts, underneath that main concepts , jot down 3-5 characteristics about it that will be easiest for you to remember
For example , if you study about George Washington
a) Birthday
b) what did he do to be famous
c) what year did he die, how did he die
d) what did he do to change history
e) Who took over the presidency after he died ?
etc...etc... stuffs like that, I found outlines or brain stormings, diagrams type work well too with datas, also flashcards types.

Chào các anh chị,
I just finished my first week of school as a junior at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (it's a high school). I want to apologize for not replying to you earlier than this. I love reading what you all posted, thank you so much for the tips! Besides posting the questions in here, I also asked a few of my former teachers at school. This is the schedule I draw from the results of what I've learnt:
...5:00 hw
5:30 shower
5:50 hw
6:30 tv/radio
7:00 hw
8:00 chat
8:30 hw
9:20 reading...
I have to spend about 3 hrs per night doing homework, it's hard to do all of them at once. I used to be procrastination, but this school year is very important, so I won't have any opportunity do postpone my studyings.
I just found out that thandieudaihiep's suggestion on turning on the music while studying can help me to concentrate better. Our mind can handle two bits of information simultaneously; therefore, by listening to music can occupy the first half of our brain, which tends to make my mind more relaxing, and when I'm relaxed, I can study more efficient. Thanks, thandieudaihiep. :)
Bro Quoc Trung, you're so right about the first 30 minutes of studying. I find myself to be distracted a lot. So, I would start my homework by organizing my notebooks and folders. :)
DsHurikan, studying in the morning is an excellent idea. At that time, our minds are still refreshing, so we can remember things easily. Unfortunately I have trouble sleeping at night and usually can't get up early. Too bad for me, hah. :)
HoangLan, it's very helpful to write summaries. Doing so make me understand what I've read/been taught better, moreover, it would help to leave a better impression on my mind, thanks! :)
CAptain DaLaZBoi, that is so true. Especially when you go to a school that is just 30 feet away from an all girls school. Well, my girlfriend died just a few months ago, so I don't think I would pay much attentions to other girls now. :)
Sis Tammy Nguyen, I wish I can have your memory. My mind shuts off when I feel sleepy, too. But when I get on the bed, I wouldn't sleep for another 30-1:30 hour. Writing summary and outline on flashcards sure help. Thanks for showing me how to do that, too! :)
kdtty3k, study thi study lien, sounds reasonable! :)
manheim, you have any more ideas on how to stop procrastinating?

Um, I have a hard time stopping it myself:D Split your time studdying up, if you try to plan to study for a full three hours, it won't seem painful and you won't like it (there's my personal experience!). This helps for reading, i get sick of reading for too long. But don't spread too much, if you miss the first little session, then you' could be tempted to do it over and over again:)
Hope this helps!
