science is a tool, which drives the technology.. we use science to create technology, or simply technology is innovation of science, using science as a tool to innovate new technology.
I would say science comes first from the very beginning.. Thanks to Galileo, Newton, Faraday, Einstein etc that have laid the fundamentals that we now still trying understand and to improve. However having said that, science and technology now go hand in hand, we now have the technology and are still trying to learn the science behind it, for example, having bought multi-million dollars instruments such as SEM, AFM, ICP-MS, NMR etc we are still learning the science behind it and using it in a different manner than just what it was set out to do by making it more versatile, through this, technology now is a tool...

Long time ago , Science was just a study to define basic nature and it's way of functioning in the universe. People use science to explain rains, clouds, people, animals and their existence and functionings.
As time passed, with the more ideas and concepts being gathered and more elaborated tests were conducted to prove and improve certain points and thus improve the living conditions , technology was founded.
Technology is more of an application to make science work. Technology encompasses everything from definitions of science to formulars, to working to apply and create inventions.
Now a day a branch of Science emerges that takes care of both Science and Technology and this is called Applied Science. The name is well fitting, in my opinion.

My thought,
Science provides the theoretical explanation for the working mechanism behind all the phenomenons of natural world. Technology is the application of scientific knowledge to come up with tools and solutions for industrial and commercial needs. I think technology comes first. In the beginning, people used tools without knowing much about the principle of mechanics. Science came later, after people observed and thought about nature more. The main difference is that scientific knowledge comes about by the application of the scientific method (observation, theory, experiment, and conclusion). New technology comes about by trial and error, and creative thinking based on the application of new findings in science. Engineers are pretty much like architects. The raw materials (for engineers: theories; for architects: bricks, steels, woods,...) already exist. They have to come up with the design which blends everthing together to make something useful like computers or buildings.

It seems simple, but rather takes long to really answer in full.
All replies are right. I just want to add to definiation of science,
which is broader than just natural science. Most of the time, technology
came from science, particullarly natural science (as explained).
There are other type of science which is social science, branch that
studies human & society (interaction, behavior, etc...).
Logically technology came from science, or use science to explain
the technology. Time to time, technology could come before science,
but rather only in physical existence (experiment, trial & error) but
then need science as fundamental base for explanation (which can
then futher technology advancement whenever needed..). Technology
can help the study of science in more depth & breath (i.e. S/W, PC...
to solve complex equation...). They are mutual supporting each other.
