Rather than give you the answer, I will give you some helpful links.
I think you should learn the basic grammars because to be successful in life , one needs , not only speak properly but also to write properly.
If you are taking some English type of classes, these sites will always be helpful. Good luck.

Here is on To be and its other forms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Preposition Phrase, you need to read about preposition first.
http://englishplus.com/grammar/00000360.htm
Here are some examples:
I prefer rice in lieu of bread.
Across from the room, he stares at the lady in amazement.
There are some nice red roses alongside of the river's bank.
So , in short, prep. phrases are modifiers that go before, infront , or in the middle of the sentence that described and modified nouns. Usually it distinguish the nouns or point to the locations between the nouns or objects.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

On Adverbs: usually anything ending in ly, that modifies or describes the verb , how is it done here it what adverbs are about:
http://englishplus.com/grammar/00000316.htm

I listen to him playing the piano beautifully,
( here the beautifully is an adverb, modifies or describes how the guy plays the piano)

She swims swiftly passed all the other swimmers in the lanes.
(here swiftly describes how she swims )

so on and so forth , hope that helps a little bit.
