I tried and here so far I got:
[root@localhost root]# cd /
[root@localhost /]# ls
bin boot dev etc home initrd lib misc mnt opt proc root sbin tmp usr var
[root@localhost /]# wget http://www.glftpd.com/files/glftpd-LNX_1.27.tgz

I try the VSFtP on my redhat 8.0 and also have many problems. Plus, you have to download some kind of database in order to make it work... too pain. Therefore, I switch to proftp. DL here: http://proftpd.linux.co.uk
It is much easy to configure and also very secure. If you are begining to ftp in linux, I strongly recommend use Gproftp (Gui for proftp) to configure. DL here: http://mange.dynup.net/linux.html
