45x 5.6k = ???
dsl/cable that is all depend how traffic is that network segment.
for dsl, the further u r away from the CO the lower your dsl speed will be.
cable is good but no security ;););)
I checked my phone line, it says 22800 away, for DSL connection, is this considered to be close?

what are the units of that number? That sounds like a connection speed for 56k:)

it all depends on the service you subscribe for. your speed all depends on how much you pay. there are different plans for cable that charge different prices and its the same with dsl. but usually, you get more bang for your buck with cable internet. i pay 35 pucks a month and my download stays at a average of 90 kbps.

dsl or cable very much depend.
the further you are away from the co the low your speed.
Cable seem to be faster but if every one in your neighbor hood have cable that you speed is even worse than low speed dsl.
Dsl the minimun speed is 384 and max = 1500 and upload 128-136.
from your information that you are 22800 from the co which mean you are in zone2 of dsl your max connection 768. Only advance of dsl is that everyone have the same speed depend on the distance. Every line is consider as separate so it doesn't effect much if all of your neighbor have dsl, it just up to the isp provider bandwidth.

FF9,
I believe there is some thread talking about the pros and cons between cable and DSL. Search for it!
Let me tell U something:
once U use high speed broadband, U never want to go back to dial-up :D

some cable users said that they got terminated for using too much bandwidth. With DSL I've yet to hear about that. Anyone with DSL got terminated for downloading too much?
- cable, no distance restriction; dsl, the further away from CO the slower the connection. The limit is 25,000ft I believe.
- cable, Comcast in particular, limits newsgroup usage; dsl, Verizon in particular, doesn't.
- cable, shared bandwidth; dsl, dedicated bandwidth.
- cable, speed varies (depending on your neighborhood's traffic); dsl, speed is pretty stable (what you have is pretty much what you're always gonna have)
- cable, you might get hacked by your neighbors if you don't apply security measures
- cable, if you're slick or want to be slick you could get free cable (TV)

I have DSL and I never got informed from the company regarding to download bandwidth or anything like that. BTW how do you verify how far the distance between you and the DSL line?

I've got unlimited bandwith for $32 Canadian/month so I don't care. :P

Only Verizon can tell you how far you are from the CO. Call them.

Thats a pretty good deal for ur DSL. In the US, I have to pay about $29.99 USD for DSL, and they keep on saying that the dropped the price already.
