A new way to download - vote here!

Hi everyone,

Do you guys/girls download mp3/movies mainly through streamload? Do you find the following sucks?

1. $5 per month for 1000MB is too little, especially for movies. 2 movie per month? Cheating is tough nowadays :(
2. Sometimes a track in a CD collection is "temporary unavailable." That sucks cuz now you can't complete it and have to pending burning to CD :(


How about a new, better, standard way to download mp3/movies/software/etc.? The answer is newsgroup! Newsgroup has only the following drawback (more? tell me):

1. Not all ISP have FREE binary newsgroup support.


However, if you have dsl/cable or better, you probably have access to binaries newsgroup support already. If you use dial-up or for some reason your ISP sucks big time and not providing you access, the cost IS ONLY $10 permonth for UNLIMITED download! Let face it, most servers that give you unlimited download is usually not "that good." What I mean by not that good? Well, the speed varies and not like what they promised. At night, the speed might go pass 1Mbits per second. The average on daytime is only around 300kbits/s. Now, 300kbits/s means an mp3 file can be downloaded in less than 3 min. Is that good enough for you though? It's for me!


Here are the advantages of downloading using newsgroup:

1. Just queue what you wanna download (through filter such as: "all posts has Nhu Quynh CD" on it"). That is the matter of a click and there, you queued all your stuffs pending download.
2. Go to sleep and by tomorrow, your queue is done!
3. There won't be "temporary unavailable" files. Repost can be done by dedicated posters.


Now, what do you think of this new way to download? If you like it over streamload and want to try it, leave your reply vote as "yes" (or no if you think it'll be a bad thing to do and why). If many of us wanna do it, we can start out a group now! You will be provided w/ free software to take care of the download/queuing/etc. There are trial versions and I'm working on a Java version myself that work on both windows and linux. When i'm done w/ it, it will be free for all of ya!

W/ the use of PARs, uncompleted files can be recovered if enough PARs file present. Another way is, obviously, reupload the uncompled files.

lowlife4ever, it's not like MIRC. W/ MIRC, you gotta queue, which sucks big time. Newsgroup is like having the files in your mailbox (like AOL). However, unlike emails, these files will get expired in a week or so (depend on size and server). Hence, you gotta download while the files are fresh or request another re-upload.

It's a good idea for those who can get access to the newsgroup so I guess my vote is yes. (By the way, those who vote yes may want to check to see if you'll get getting the newsgroups that has been mentioned.)

I won't be using it since I don't get the same newsgroups year-round. The server at school doesn't have the newsgroups I want access to (like the ones posted here), and I'm not home enough to really download much from the newsgroups I'll get access to for the period that I do have access to them.

In any case, I still like bitTorrent and Streamload. :p Since I don't get to play sys admin to the router at school, I can't arrange for myself to get high ID on eMule, so I don't use that, either. Toooooooooo slow, anyway.
