i dont know if u already know this but iam ganna say it anyway... cuz it happened to me and iam soo piss off rite now...on my grad. ceremony my bro. take pic for me, and he sat like 100feet away from me and when he take pic 4 me, the pic is sooooooooooooo dark i can bearly see anything...and i found out about the shutter u can set the distant for the flash....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh soooooooooooo damn mad..................................... ok hope this help for some of the S400 owner

None of flash can go that far or make a subject at that distance look bright, unless you set up enough light aroung your sitting.

An EV setting and shutter speed can help a bit, but not efficient in a pretty dark room or outside at night. Play around with both setting will give you a better idea.
