Never heard of this. I own at least 4 camry's from 89-96, 1 95 avalon and 01 RX300 (same engine type) and they all use spark plugs. Only they use different plug type: regular one for v4 and platinum for v6. Your car will run better if changed around 60K :D

If you plant to mount a 6 bangers in a 4 bangers designated car, you might as well as change the main the computer. Because your Camry's original computer designed to inject fuel into the four bangers.
So stick with your Orginal stuff or buy a new Camry with a 6 bangers.
good luck man.

I agree, there is no way! I think beside the main ECU (Engine Control Unit) you will need to modify a lot more, engine mounts, various sensors, exhaust/intake manifold....it's very complicated and definitely not worth doing! NEVER.
All gasoline automobile uses spark plugs....no exception!
Just drop another 4 cyl. engine in, and you will be fine.

I think he meant distruberless system. All car uses some sort of ignition system to burn the fuel and I think Spark plug gonna stay for a long time.
If you remove the individual ignite coil from the cyclinder head, you'll find a Spark plug sit deep in the well. This is latest "Firing" technology in automobile. Your car is pretty tech man.. so appericate it..hehehhe

It is impossible to blow up a Camry engine with merely stepping on the gas pedal. Sound like you did little maintence on your car.
Define "Blew up" Did the engine caught fire? Did black thick smoke comes under the hood? The only circumstance I called for replacement of an engine is a "snap timing belt" or engine over heat for extended period of time.
Keep me updated, I am pretty sure your 4 bangers is useable.

Oh well, I think lacking of maitenance is the primary cause of your ruining engine. Even if you floor your accelerator pedal, there is someting called the rpm limiter that prevents the engine from over-rev.
And no, not channing the spark plug does not cause your engine to blow up either.
If you are mechanic incline, you can do the engine swap by yourself. The 4cyl. Camry is every easy to do...lots of room and not much wires/hoses. A quality decent use engine cost about $400, and labor would be around $600. As for warranty if you bring it to the shop! Artaco and Taylin Imports in Calif. has large selection of used engine and transmission imported from Japan.

Hey Nam, how's your Cressida Engine? Did you finally found out what's wrong with your Engine? I think I do now. Have your throttle position sensor recalibrated by a qualified technician. That'll take care of your no-more-than-3000-RPM problem.

Mitsurugi, thanks for following up with the problem. I still have been able to solve it yet. Yeah th e throttle position sensor is a good try! Also, I need to swap the ECU once again since I doubt that the last time, I put back the original one instead of trying a different one! I have been a little busy with my newly purchased 4runner...that's why!
Thanks once again,
Nam
