please help everyone. I am planning to get this 4 door 1992 Acura Legend at $3500.
Mileage: 150K
New tires, and rear shocks.
Condition: outside, and interior look clean. engine seem to be in good condition, but the owner tells me it's time to replace the timing belt and waterpump. anyone knows how much this will cost me????
Please advise me if I should take this car or not, and what is a fair deal on this one? is $3500 too much or too little?
thank you

U don't even know how much it costs for timing belt and water pump for '92 Legend?
The price is good but I advice U stay away from this one for a simple reason: "The car is fairly old and can be costly for maintenance and repair."
If U only have $3500, get a clean '95 accord.

Oh geez, he should replace the timing belt and water pump at 60K miles ago.
Don't buy it. It is too old, will cost you alot for repair and its parts are extremly expensive.
IMHO, stay from the Legen for several reasons:
It's the first model of Honda when they design the 2.5L V6 engine. That engine is known for knocking, oil leak, burnt valves...
Parts are teribbly expensive and hard to find...I think the engine is procuded in Britain...about the same as the Premier Eagle...a street legal Tank!
If you do not want the trouble and a huge expense for maintenance and repair, get any newer model Toyota/Honda/Nissan
I had a friend who bought a 93 Legen 4dr. for $13K, within a year of owenership, he spend $10K for repair, then a year later, he sold the vehicle for $3800. The vehicle barely got 160K miles when he got rid of it!

Watttt.....
Acura Legend 92 is 3.2L V6...210 horsepower ..and the Timing belt should be changed within 90k-100k miles interval. The Timing belt and water pump are both changed at once...
Condition of the car depends on how well the previous owner keep... in my opinion I think most Acura Legend will last long....my first car I had owned was 89 Legend coupe...I then bought a 92 4doors for couple years ago..but it runs perfect as of today..I haven't changed anything at all....just change oil regularly... I even have a friend who owns a 4-door 90 Legend that has 250k miles on the odometer and still runs good
In the case of HHNguyen...the owner said " it's time to change the timing belt @150k" is suspicious...that he might haved pulled the odometer down..........
I think at 150K miles, the timing belt and H20 pump needs to be replaced again! that's what the owner mean I guess.

careful man, they might roll back the odometer. I almost buying the freaking 95 Legend SE with about 84k mi. But the actual mile is 250k mi. Damn the Russian dealer. thanks to carfax.

If you bring it to the dealer, they'll charge you around $1000. But if you buy part from dealer, timing belt cost around $90, water pump is about $250.
150K mi is about time for another major tune up which costs you at least $500 (timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and wire, fuel filter, etc.) if you hire a mechanic to do it for you.
It's important that you also need to replace the timing belt "retention"- I forgot the name, but it's like a pully to push down and hold the timing belt in place. Most of VNese garages don't replace this part when they change the timing bell. If it brakes down when the car is running, you have to replace the engine.
ABOUT THE RELIABILITY OF ACURA LEGEND:
It's the best car in its class in terms of reliability and performance. It's 3.2L, 200HP, good road handling. I have many friends who own/owned/have owned. None of them complain about it. It could last 200K miles easily without any major problem.

About the changing of timing belt, I believe that it should be changed at every 75K miles. People usually try to stretch the maintenance schedule as longer as possible, but that's not good. It could cause the car start acting up and you have to spend a lot more money to fix them rather than to follow the maintenance schedule recomended from the manufacturer.
