I'm looking to buy a new Japanese car that is very gas efficient. Price under $25K is what I'm looking for. I will primary drive the car on local streets 85% of the time. Hardly on freeway unless I'm out of town. Any recommendations?

Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid, and Honda Insight are what you are looking for.

Take a look at the Prius, I highly recommend it since Toyota is loosing about $8k for each sold, so you actually get more than what you pay for. Toyota uses high quality materials on the Prius, all are assembled in Japan, also, it gets better MPG in city driving than hwy. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Good luck,

Nam

Hmm... 25k ? wow, that's a lot..then, get the Acura RSX type S ddi, vu*`a ddu? tie`n for that one luon ddo' ! just enough to purchase the car and tax and maybe insurance for a year !

but in the long term it not going to pay off compare with the hybird.
30 per week
1560 per year
on the other hand hybird only use
15 per week
780 per year

And i think insurance on electric car cost less.

Bro. R-34, if Toyota has a gasoline-electric hybrid SUV, I will make sure that I own one. The Prius may be my extra car in the future, but frankly, I can't drive anything else but SUV -- to bad, I am addicted to low speed, high ground clearance, dangerous, gas guzzler, heavy, big, yet, comfortable, utility, roomy, 4WD with low gears vehicles. :(

uh oh then you might have to wait for a decade or more to get your hand on a gas electric hybird SUV. :)

Thanks TD,

Well, Ford Escape is coming out with one...but I don't trust Ford/Mazda's realibility at all.

There is Toyota Highlander Fuel Cell/Electric Hybrid SUV.

I don't see how hard it is for Totota to design one, frankly, if we get all interested VCB members, we can design a gasoline/electric hybrid SUV, don't you think?

oh but that, i'm waiting for honda or toyota to come out with oxygen fuel cell car. That be darn cool, talking about oxygen fuel cell GM, is really good about it. But to bad I like most of you guys in here doens't like American car that much. But oxygen fuel cell has long way to go, it might take up to 2020 for it to be on the market. That what 60 minutes said.

Triky,

Thanks anh for the links. and big No No since it's pure electric. California has lots of them, I myself had owned it for a week for an evaluation write-up. I will try to dig up a picture and post it here!

The Hybrid is Gasoline/Electric combined where we don't have to plug it in.
