The new 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid will be available in the late summer of 2004. If your interested in purchasing one, reserve yours today. The new Ford Escape Hybrid should be a popular model and with the experience of other Hybrid cars and SUV's this one will most likely have a waiting list soon. You can check availability by selecting the 'search prices' button above.

The new 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid will offer improved fuel economy and an increased range of driving of 400 to 500 miles per tank. Also the new Escape Hybrid will offer better acceleration which Ford claims will feel like a V6 using it's I4 engine.

One of the nice things about the new Ford Escape Hybrid is reduced emissions, the new Hybrid meets strict SULEV and Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle standards. The Hybrid Electric Vehicle combines a chemically fueled internal combustion engine. The new engine offers a shutoff at idle which eliminates fuel waste when engine is not needed and a regenerative braking system, this system will use an electric motor or alternator to divert gas engine power from the wheels to recharge the battery during steady speed cruising.

The new 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid Hybrid engine is an internal combustion engine that charges the battery through the electric motor or through a generator, the gas engine does not directly drive the vehicle and the regenerative breaking is used to supplement battery charging. A Parallel Hybrid is both gas and electric, motors are connected to the drive train and an internal combustion engine can be downsized because of an electric motor which augments performance. The Split Hybrid combines the benefits of both the Escape Hybrid and parallel systems through the use of a planetary gear set.

Although final fuel-economy projections are not yet available, Ford says the Escape Hybrid is expected to achieve 35-40 mpg (6.7-5.9L/100 km) in city driving and around 30 mpg (7.8L/100 km) on the highway. The standard 4-wheel drive Escape with a 3L DOHC V-6 manages a meager 18 mpg (13L/100 km) in city driving and 23 mpg (10.2L/100 km) on the highway.

Ford says the Escape Hybrid will achieve markedly better fuel economy with its smaller 2.3L 4-cyl. engine augmented by the hybrid system, yet will deliver performance equivalent to the standard Escape with the 3L V-6.

don't you suppose to get more mpg on the highway than in the city?

Fuel economy is opposite in hybrids and gasoline cars. In hybrids, city driving actually uses more of the electric motor which cost less energy. When you get to freeway speed then it switches to gasoline which then drops the fuel economy.
