it's depend, if the big part at the end is broken, you could change a new one rather than buying some thermal tapes and wrap around (it's very hot). it's cheaper if you do it yourself, (less than $100). Go to PepBoys or Kragen and tell them the year and model of your car, then say that you need a muffler, they can check the price for you.

it is depend on what car you have, some car they weld the muffler, to the cat, and straight throug the exhaust manifold, this is difficult because when you want to replace the muffler you have cut the old one and weld in with the new one. another type is divide the exhaust system into section (connect by bolts and nuts), muffler, resonator, cat, downpipe, and header, this type is very easy to replace, just unsrew the bolt and unhook the hanged, take it out and put on a new one..

Oh boy, sometimes those screws get rusted and could be hard to remove. What I ususually recommend people is to apply some W40 and replace those screws, bolts, and nuts after to take them out!

Good luck,

Nam
