bad compare, infinity fx35 use the same engine as murano, but improve little bit over performance, change in style, Infinity badge, and probably $8,000 difference for nothing
BMW x5 is way above 40 grants, and 3.0i is less horse than Murano
Acura Mdx is same thing, too damn expensive, around 40 grant
Have you test drive or check out Saturn VUE V6 with AWD, it uses the same engine as 3.5L V6 engine found in Acura MDX and Honda Pilot, around 250 hp, you could get top of the line VUE with fully loaded around 24 grants,

Don't like Nissan, most of their products look muscle but not elegant.
I would go for Toyota or Honda, Pilot for example.
BMW, Infinity, Lexus, MDX are in a different league and at higher level.
One thing that I don't understand that why people keep buying, driving, and showing their SUV and especially 4 wheel drive, all wheel drive. For what?
Is it a fashion? Because the guy next door has a SUV so we must own one too?
And 'cuz the SUV of the guy next door has AWD, so we must have that option too?
LOL
I clearly understand the beauti of it, the advantage of it, but not with driving on the normal road.
I'm sure a lot of people misunderstand the usage of it and I saw too many idiot driving SUV like nut on freeway and especially on the icy road.
One word, stay far away from the SUV when you're on the road.
Oh, I mean do not drive close to them.

I agree with R-34. Honda SUV is mostly for street driving...even though I own one, but it's not anywhere near the true SUV Toyota makes.

Yeah, VTEC is a good idea; but how does it help on SUV application where it kicks in at 5500RPM and produces little or almost none amount of torque?

Sean,
I understand and appreciate your comments; I own two SUVs and yet...doesn't feel what you feel about SUV for these following 10 reasons:
1. If you know your tastes, be patient, and smart, you don't pay for SUV as much as you do for a car.
2. They have more room...you can carry tons of stuffs. My roof rack can carry shingles, wood, door...you name it from home depot. When the bear on the jungle presents, you can sleep inside your SUV comfortably with an air matress.
3. They are some what presentable, yet rugged enough to go to unsusual road pattents.
4. Well, if you drive like me, carefull corner, on a head-on collision, SUV can stand more impact...
5. With 4WD, no chain is needed on your weekend skiing trip, yet the ski racks don't interfere with your personal luggage and passenger either since they stay on top.
6. With FWD car, if one front wheel is off the ground, you are stuck for sure. Remember, AAA won't tow it if it's 25ft away from the pavement. With 4WD SUV...your chance of getting stuck is much much lower.
7. Try loading, unloading a boat on undeveloped boat launching ram with 2WD, you will be rewarded since now the boat will tow you, not you towing the boat as usual. I did this with a full side truck...not fun.
8. On a muddy, snowy road, just put in 4WD, engaged the E-locker, step on the gas and...enjoy the scenery. Try this with your FWD.
9. Please challenge me but on average, SUV does last much longer than normal, passenger car...agree?
10. What my next door neighbor owns has not thing to do with my NEEDs and LIFE STYLE.

Well, this is not entirely true since SUV has higher roll-over risk. Yes, SUV burns more gas but if properly maintained, it costs less to repair since it's more durable and rugged. Eventually, when you used it to haul big stuffs or towing trailers/different vehicles, it will even out since you save $$$ on renting truck.

I personally do not like it for its style and functionality. For this SUV, you can go faster and it's powerful in term of speed compare to truck-base SUV.
Well, you'll get a car-like feel but you don't get the towing capacity and the ruggedness of truck-base SUV...that's all.
Good luck,
Nam

1. If you know your tastes, be patient, and smart, you don't pay for SUV as much as you do for a car.
Really?
2. They have more room...you can carry tons of stuffs. My roof rack can carry shingles, wood, door...you name it from home depot. When the bear on the jungle presents, you can sleep inside your SUV comfortably with an air matress.
Have you heard of "home delivery"? fyi, 95% of the time, they are FREE deliver... how frequent do you buy big items? ONCE or TWICE a week?
3. They are some what presentable, yet rugged enough to go to unsusual road pattents.
Where do you live again, in the jungle?
4. Well, if you drive like me, carefull corner...
Unless you're a girl or a senior citizen
5. With 4WD, no chain is needed on your weekend skiing trip, yet the ski racks don't interfere with your personal luggage and passenger either since they stay on top.
You go to skiing trip EVERY weekend? If you go to skiing trip more than 10 times a year for a three-year period, I'll BUY you a SUV :)
6. With FWD car, if one front wheel is off the ground, you are stuck for sure. Remember, AAA won't tow it if it's 25ft away from the pavement. With 4WD SUV...your chance of getting stuck is much much lower.
you live in a jungle or something?
8. On a muddy, snowy road, just put in 4WD, engaged the E-locker, step on the gas and...enjoy the scenery. Try this with your FWD.
how do you know that? you live in Cali, is there any SNOW in Cali? yeah step on the GAS pedal and tell me how it feels when the gas price @ $3 a gallon and you commute to WORK 40 miles round trip per day
9. Please challenge me but on average, SUV does last much longer than normal, passenger car...agree?
How long has SUV in the market compare to passenger car? Do you know?
10. What my next door neighbor owns has not thing to do with my NEEDs and LIFE STYLE.
That's hard to believe :)
BTW, SUVs are truck based. That's a fact, don't make me laugh with your comments

1. If you know your tastes, be patient, and smart, you don't pay for SUV as much as you do for a car.
Paying for gas is always much higher than for car, you agree???? No doubt
2. They have more room...you can carry tons of stuffs. My roof rack can carry shingles, wood, door...you name it from home depot. When the bear on the jungle presents, you can sleep inside your SUV comfortably with an air matress.
Carrying more stuff? Yep, no doubt about it, but if you have to carry some real big thing such as bathtub or hotwater tank, I don't think a SUV will fit.
Big TV like projector? Not many people carry it nowsaday.
HomeDepot stuff? True, but I can always figure out a way to bring them home without spending money for a SUV. Question is how many time a year or how frequently do we have to bring home a big merchandise? Not many, isn't it?
3. They are some what presentable, yet rugged enough to go to unsusual road pattents.
Presentable? laugh.
That's my MAIN point. I'm glad that you know this is the point and brought in on. Yes, a SUV is suitable, helpful and useful for type of the road that you called "unusual road" only.
99% roads, streets, freeway, highway is normal road.
A SUV is on the normal road is somewhat funny.
If you buy a SUV and use it on unpaved uphill, downhill road, đường sình lầy, leo lề, leo bờ rào, băng qua mương, trèo đèo vượt suối (sorry don't know how to express in English :)) then I'm glad but for normal road, ehhhhhhh, just a waste.
4. Well, if you drive like me, carefull corner, on a head-on collision, SUV can stand more impact...
No doubt.
If every people understand it - the SUV and driving it careful then I would never say "stay far away from the SUV" :)
To snoopy, I bet you're young and let me tell you something: nothing wrong with driving a car carefully. If you think people who drive car carefully are girl or old person, then I have nothing to say but j.u.s.t s.t.a.y a.w.a.y f.r.o.m m.e." 'cuz I don't want to die in hand of a reckless driver.
5. With 4WD, no chain is needed on your weekend skiing trip, yet the ski racks don't interfere with your personal luggage and passenger either since they stay on top.
Wrong, wrong
I'm sad because you say so.
SUV helps you to go stronger but not help you to stop any faster.
I saw so many maniac who thinking a SUV will stop at any time they want on the icy road, they drove fast and they plunk right in front of me many time.
However, if your point is that a SUV is going stronger on the road, that's fine.
6. With FWD car, if one front wheel is off the ground, you are stuck for sure. Remember, AAA won't tow it if it's 25ft away from the pavement. With 4WD SUV...your chance of getting stuck is much much lower.
Correct.
7. Try loading, unloading a boat on undeveloped boat launching ram with 2WD, you will be rewarded since now the boat will tow you, not you towing the boat as usual. I did this with a full side truck...not fun.
No idea 'cuz I am not towing anything.
8. On a muddy, snowy road, just put in 4WD, engaged the E-locker, step on the gas and...enjoy the scenery. Try this with your FWD.
Repeat item # 5
I would love to invite you to the Northeast on the winter time and let you "enjoy the scenery"
9. Please challenge me but on average, SUV does last much longer than normal, passenger car...agree?
Challenge you? don't need to but I'm sure I can find more than 10 sedans (Camry, Accord, ...) that have 200,000+ miles on the odometer.
Never seen that kind of SUV just yet.
10. What my next door neighbor owns has not thing to do with my NEEDs and LIFE STYLE.
I'm glad you're saying so and of course my lifestyle and your lifestyle have nothing to do to each other :) but at least I know that YOUR LIFESTYLE.

Comparison based on handling and cornering!
what about the RX330?
rx330 is camry-based (did i spell camary right? it doesn't look right for some reason :typing: ) . so the rx330 doesnt handles/corners well. But old white folks love the rx330, just like my neighbor

This debates is not gonna anywhere because there are good things and bad things about SUV. I know Nam takes his SUV to go off road a lot. Honda will catch up with Toyota SUV because Honda makes their SUV not long time ago compared with toyota. I read some where on the net, only 1% who bought their SUV actually use off road but 99 % is used for normal road.... When I see a SUV behind or tailgated me, i change lane right away. They are the worst for braking in a short distance...
I love Vtec

Buyers have recently been moving away from sport-utility vehicles, Reuters reported, citing a report from the Power Information Network (PIN), an affiliate of J.D. Power and Associates, a noted industry research firm.
The PIN report said rising gasoline prices and a renewed emphasis on passenger cars by some manufacturers are factors contributing to the recent evidence of flagging SUV demand, the story said.
The report said unsold SUVS had sat on dealership lots for an average of 73 days as of last month, about 22 percent longer than the 60-day average in July last year.
The increase in the so-called "days to turn" rate was even higher for luxury SUVS, jumping 47 percent, or more than double the industrywide rate for cars and trucks overall, the report said.
The report also said average SUV transaction prices were down 2 percent, or $620, in July from the year-earlier period. Luxury SUV prices were nearly 5 percent lower.
Consumer incentives on SUVs averaged $3,440 in July, the report said, up nearly 12 percent from June and nearly double the overall industry increase for new cars and trucks, which the report suggested was further evidence of weakening SUV demand.
But Tom Libby, the Power Information Network's senior director of industry analysis, told Reuters it was premature to declare that America's long love affair with SUVs is on the rocks. "It's definitely too soon to say that," Libby said. "You have to wait and see if indeed there is a major softening or if this is just sort of a blip."

Sean,
Truck base SUVs are true SUVs, they have been built from a truck chassis. Truck chassis is a ladder type of chassis as you image by taking a ladder, lay it flat, that's how a truck chassis look like. Examples of this type include higher, bigger, pricier SUVs such as Landcruiser, Sequoial, 4Runner, Exercursion, Explorer, Chevy Suburban, Blazer, GMC Yukon, Isuzu Rodeo, Trooper, Pathfinder, Armada, Lexus GX470 (4Runner), LX470(Landcruiser), and etc.
Pros: stronger steel enforced frame, offer higher clearance, and has more room for transfer case and other differential related stuffs suck as lockers(look two wheels and make them always turn at the same speed). Better impact resistant since it's harder. These provide superior off-road, towing, and hauling capacity.
Cons: added weight and higher ground clearance meaning higher rollover risk. These drive like a truck.
Car base SUVs are SUVs that has been built from car or minivan chassis. This type of chassis sometimes called "unibody chassis" meaning, the entire body is one piece...so unlike the truck-base SUVs, these do not separate the chassis and the body...they are all in one piece. Those include the CR-V (Civic), Rav4(Cellica), Honda Pilot and Acura MDX (Odyssey), RX330(Camry), and etc.
Pros: light weight, easy steering (on some), drive like a normal car or a minivan, usually cost less. They provide easy access for passengers and driver since they are lower somewhat.
Cons: Poor off-road performance, the body tend to stiff easily, usually no low gear transfer case (2nd transmission for high torque at low speed), can't tow very efficiently.
The way to tell is...hmm...I don't know...post it here maybe...I can tell almost 95% of SUVs on the market.
Hope this helps,
Nam
PS, snoopy...read this and stop laughing at me about car base or truck base SUVs ok.

Wow, thanks a lot, Nam
What a piece of useful information!
I have read your both comments...thanks for the lengthy replies...I do not intend to write back even though I could at any given time.
I guess one of the main reasons we are here is to learn. In lieu of that, I would appreciate your response even more if the following two reasons are carried out:
1. Read the other's person posts carefully before response, if doubt, ask.
2. If helps to do some more research if you are unsure about the subject(s) or details that you are going to reply.
Instead of writing back and fourth in an unpleasant manner, I will write to offer both of you and VCB members a new article titled: "History of SUV in the US with forcus on Asian imports" in a near future. I hope you will find this coming article the history of SUV and use it for future replies if you ever see this topic again.
Snoopy, I guess you are a great driver and rich since you can get me a new SUV right? On the other hand, if you want to be rich all the way, do a search on "California Climate" you will see. Yet, multiply your $19.99 by three, you will be able to get a truck from U-haul for a day. Been there and done that bro.
After I am done with the article, I would appreciate if someone can beam a case of beer to our annual camping trip coming up during the Labor Day weekend!

Nam,
I'm definitely not rich; not to the point of cruising in SUV with a pricy gas and afraid of hitting the gas pedal or carefully cornering around town, since I've seen so many SUVs drive very carefully SLOW compare to my little sedan :) not that rich of skiing every weekend or so ... in my SUV :)
You posted so many things in your replies and some of them might be correct, and some might not, I don't know and don't really care much... since it's NOT my money, it's YOUR money, I replied on my thought that might be facts or might not be, don't hold me accountable for that.... you know this is the internet, right? :)
You can do pretty much whatever you want to your money since I know that you know what's right/practical for your lifestyle :) only YOU know what's right or wrong, say 10 years from now... that's what I expect my sedan to last, what about your SUV, wanna race to see how reliable, how much it cost to maintain it, how much can it sell for?
Peace :)
