I'm a bit surprised to know that a lot of YOUNG MEN (Vnese of course) are getting into "NAIL tech" career :D
I just drove off a female cousin just come from VN not long ago to take the state test and I saw more guys than girls in the test room.
Man, maybe one of those guys is "CIS" ... kekeke j/k
If I can not find a job in one year man, I will go for the nail tech for sure. Burn the degree and flush it in the toilet for sure hehehe.....
Your cousin is hot ?? I will work the same place for sure hahaha J/K

Also please don't compare a nail "tech" with a 4 year college engineer :hammer: go out and tell that to people, they will laugh at you!

==> What's wrong with being a male manicurist ?
There are some male nurses, too. I thought we have an equal opportunity for everyone in this society.
==> Why do you call it "dirty somewhat degrading job", snoopy ?
Have you ever heard the saying "someone has to do the dirty job" yet ? Cleaning them and making them better, isn't that a rewarded feeling ? Dentists clean their patients' mouth is way dirtier . Mouth has tons of bacteria . Is that a dirty job, too ? Or your knowledge is just too limited to know that ?
Mấy người cái miệng cứ bô bô là "tự do dân chủ" rồi coi như mình "civilized" hơn những người ở VN lắm mà sao lại look down on someone just beause of their career ? Isn't that contradicted ?

Chỉ khác nhau là different approach and different way of making it.

I guess you're quite okay/familiar with a nail manicurist, or tech, or whatever you want to call it, always brag about how much $$$ you can earn more than an engineer ... and of course I am talking about college engineer, NOT janitor as some in America kind of confuse :hair:

Tặng lại you 1 câu là "Nhất nghệ tinh, nhất thân vinh" .

hahaha ... do you really really know what kind of people I'm hanging out with ? Do you think you know it all ??? You don't even know what degree I have or my brothers and sister have. So, don't even bother yourself to guess.
Bật mí nói nhỏ cho you biết : :cigar: mấy bác sĩ , nha sĩ , dược sĩ , tiến sĩ , thạc sĩ , kỹ sư mà tui quen biết ... chưa ai hó hé chế nhạo việc làm nails . They know better how to respect others even if they didn't want to follow that career.

Cool down, ladies and gentlemen!!
Let's read, analyze the following, and don't rush jumping off your seat to argue:
"..Get pay even higher than an Engineer"
"..become a Doctor...girls eill get in line for you to choose..."
"LoL.. A nail certificate is better than a 4 years Degree haha"
"I will go for the nail tech for sure. Burn the degree and flush it in the toilet for sure hehehe.....
Your cousin is hot ?? I will work the same place for sure hahaha"
"and it's kind of "dirty" somewhat degrading job - IMHO, cleaning people foot with your face next to it"
"about their incomes IS FAR BETTER than engineer ..."
I don't really know how you conclude $800/week pay is higher than the engineer's salary! Yes, it's higher than salary of an engineer who is a little unlucky finding a job, has to do support, and is making $40K/year. But the average engineer's salary is $60K/year -- that's $1000+/week, after taxes + benefits, it is still slightly better than $800/week. Then engineers with a few years of experience and doing good work, they are making $90K+/year. Remember, doing nails, you are working at least 6 days a week, some are working 7 days a week filing nails untill your arms so tired and breathing dust for the whole day. Where as, engineers are "ngồi mát ăn bát chè" giống như chú Ngạn nhà ta hay nói trên ThúyNga -- sit in nice cool office doing work for 5 days a week, eat and enjoy your lunch on time.
Second point: I don't think all girls will get inline for a Doctor to choose. So are you talking about hookers lining up for a Doctor to choose? I know some sick Doctors think that they can get any girl they want. That's why they get what they deserve.
I don't see how a nail certificate is better than a 4-year degree, and I don't see why it's funny to you to laugh.
Then you said burn the degree, and work in a place where there is a hot girl doing nails? -- You sound like a nails technican already.
I don't see how doing nails is "dirty" and degrating. Are you stealing, cheating people, or selling your pride for money?
Nails people sometimes make some good cash then really show off by spending on nice cars like bmw or mercedes and big houses. Those people are not thinking long term. Nails are up and down all the time. Sometimes it's very slooow. Nowsaday, Vietnamese are competiting with each other bringing down the prices so that they can get as much customers and make as much cash as they can in a short time, then don't care and think about the long term. So you guys shouldn't see their big spending and be short-sighted.
Here is the "wrong" crowd:
- Doing nails, making some good cash, spending like crazy on nice cars and houses to show off, and laughing at engineers who make less than them.
- Doctors, Pharmacists, Dentists, yak yak Lawyers, and Engineers who think they belong in the "highly educated" class and look down on nails people or factory workers.
- .... -- I don't want to brag on.
You now should be able to figure out the good crowd.
The mis-guided young generation should take a walk, scratch their heads a bit, take a step back to look at the big picture and long term, and think carefully about what you want to do. It's a free country -- do whatever you want. But don't be hasty, jump to a conclusion, and follow something that you might regret later on. If you have a chance, think carefully. Other people don't have much chance and choices, so they do whatever they have to, like doing nails or cleaning. Often they are not part of the "wrong" crowd.
My 2 cents.

2. Tiền lấy vào là tiền không khai thuế, môt thời gian sau IRS will catch up.
:cheer:

why do i think doing nails is better?
well let see.
You can get the degree within a year or so (for me i can probably do it in a very short amount of time because i know enough english and knows a bit about studying for tests), this goes for all those highschool kids
you make alot of money, and people might say that the job is dangerous/tiring and it won't earn much in the future, well let's put it this way, educated people uses their brain to work for money, these people uses their strength, if a girl can do it it probably doens't take that much power (no offense but in the case of body strength you have to give it to the guys)... plus since you don't need much brain power to do this line of job, it really is kindda relaxing. Dangerous or not the line of work the nail tech does isn't any where near the "most dangerous" jobs around, and all this talk about nail going down in the future, well they've been saying that for years, i see nothing yet.
hehe turns out i'm getting my BS @ UCSD too lol, but if i can't get a job once i'm out of school, i'll do nail, i don't care, as long as i can get the money i need i'll do it. it's not like this is a bad/ illigal job, you're not robbing anyone.
People say that they'll be a doctor just on trying... face the reality people, in this world "trying" isn't good enough most of the time, how many people graduate from highshool? about 50% of them or more get kick out of college, and those that graduate from college how many get their master? and when they get their masters, how many became doctors? all i'm saying is that it's not easy, and the chances are slim, alot of people go broke, go crazy just to become a doctor and never gets it. And for the comments "girls" lining up for doctors? i wouldn't touch those, all they want is money, why bother?
PS: actually i would touch those girls but they probably won't touch me since i'm not a doctor lol, after all i'm just a guy hahahaha.

I still think do nails is better . THat's is my experience . I got my MIS degree in 2000 , and couldn't find a job for almost 2 years . My friend ( who is doing nails for long time ) told me to go to school to get a nail license and work for her . It took me a month to make this decision ...and I did . Just because i need money .She paid 500 dollars a week when I started ( just do manicure and pedicure ) and I made around 700-800 dollars a week ( inclue tip ) , so 3000 dollars a month and NO TAX , ALL CASH . That's good money to me at that time . And a year later , since I knew how to do acrylic nail and Pink and White nail ( it's cost 50 dollars for a new set pink and white and it take me 45' to finish ) , I make 1000-1200 dollars for 1 week ( and inclue tip ,around 1500 dollars ) 1 week in summer and around 1000-1100 dollars in the winter . I work 10 to 7h30 everday , 6 day a week , so it's not bad at all . And you have your time , especially when you want to take long vacation like me in the winter . I always go to Vietnam for 6 weeks to 2 months . I'm gonna open my shop soon , and trust me , it don't cost you so much money like go to college ( you have to pay your loan , and if you want to become a doctor , oh man ,,,so much more ) , just 6 months in school , you don't have to payto much tax ( some nail shop pay 50% cash and 50% check , but still a lot of cash ) . My friend ( the one told me to do nails ) have 3 nails shop , and during the summer , she made at least 30.000 dollars a month .
So ...neu' kiem tien` hop phap' va` lam` ra nhieu` tien` , i dont' care what people say ..like ...con nho? ddo' hoc. ddai. hoc. ra ma` ddi lam` nail . Who's care . DDen luc minh` ngheo` khong co tien` khong co ai coi ra gi , khong co' giup tra? bill ddau .
So you read QuanChua post?
Now anyone ready to work for me. $800/week is minimum you can get plus $250-350 tip money. If you do good you can take home up to $1500 a week. Then when you open your own shop you can make $200,000.00 a year. work for 10 year then retire.
I will help you relocate and get a Florida licence.

:) actually, i was just kidding around. IF you want to go for doctor, have it planned it early like when you're 15 or even earlier. :) not when you're 22 or 24.
This is what I think..... Agree with me or not that depend on you.... I know my degree not gonna make a lot of money than Nail technician, but I know I have good health than Nail technician for sure... I work only 8 hours aday, 5 days a week and weekend with my family and friends. Nail technicain works more hours and no time with their family or friends. People do nail stuff because it just a way to get fast cash in short period of time. Most of them are college students, international students, and people just got into the U.S.
Nail = 9/10 nhiều chuyện
Nail = Diamond, new car to show off other people
Nail = breath with the chemical everyday = bad for your health in the future. I know a few people in real life. They look young and pretty but when they got into Nail business, they look so old and unpretty because the chemical start to eat their health. Most viet people just like money, but they never think of their future....
Anyway, Nail is getting cheaper and cheaper everyday....

I agree that "doing-nail" has been a crucial job for many many Vietnamese families. Vietnamese are not just doing nail, they are revolutionizing the manicure/pedicure industry. They are not only enriched themselves economically, but also help the economy. However, trying to compare nail technician to professional jobs, that is just simply stuplid and rediculous. It is just like you take a cubic zirconia and says that it looks like diamonds, so it is diamond. You know better than that!
Everyone has one life to live, people can chose however they want to live their life and whatever job they want to do. However, I think people should be more conscious about what they are getting into and understand the consequences of their life decision. They are many ways to live, but some ways are longer, some waysare shorter, some ways are happier, some ways are stragedy, some ways takes you up to power, some lead some down to bottom. U're 100% correct :D
Nails are going down big time now.
In many major cities (ie Houston), there is a nail salon in every corner.
I think the golden time for nail job is over (same with IT job).
What's next?
I see lots of people switching to real estate :D
On college level, PharmD seems to be promising?
No complaining or bad mouth if they couldn't make it in nails/salon industry ex: "How much money they lost????" :D :D
Any one from Lousiana that lost your home or business. I can help you with job and housing.
Will give free room till you get on your feet.

DDen luc minh` ngheo` khong co tien` khong co ai coi ra gi , khong co' giup tra? bill ddau .
Hm...
not paying tax is illegal. Your logic doesn't seem to work very well.
