I want to repalce my 2001 honda passport stock cd player 2 din, with the new pioneer DEH-P80MP 1 din. How much you think it would cost. I dont have anything beside the pioneer player which i can buy from ebay for 290, how much would you think it'll cost to install plus all the accessories charges. I know that those shop charge a lot for accessories, but I dont know how much they would charge. I need to know the appropriate price before bring purchase the new cd reciever.

Is there any good cd/mp3 indash reciever out there thats comparable to the pioneer? My friend had a pioneer cd/mp3 reciever in his prelude, the sould is awsome. thats why i want the pioneer so bad.

Thanks.

You need two things:
- the wiring kit (some where from $6 to $15 at Walmart or some online site): the adaptor that connects to your pioneer receiver and plugs directly to your vehicle's plug without cutting the factory wires
- the mounting kit (somewhere from $10 to $25 at Walmart or some online site): the black plastic kit including metal hardware to mount your new deck and to fill up the gap since your deck is a single din. You can store cds and little things in this pocket.

Then you need a few beers for you if you DIY.

Installation is very simple. On scale easy-medium-hard, I would say easy. In fact you will find taking off the dash bezel is the most difficult part. Remember don't force anything, if you can't pull the bezel off easily, there gotta be a screw somewhere you need to take off first. So don't break your dash bezel as I broke one or two in my first few times.

I couldn't find the installation instruction for your 2001 Passport. But I found a 1999-2000 manual, I hope you find it useful:

$290 for a Pioneer DEH-P80MP, must be a very good deck.
Enjoy!

thanks for the reply johnnyph. I'm new to this, thats why i can't do it myself, especially the wiring part, which I got no idea how it works. Can you help me and give me the link to buy those parts, the wire harness, the plastic kit, etc. I ask car toys and they charge $50 for the installation, which I don't think its bad, but I know that they'll charge a lot for those accessories. I think i can buy those stuff and take it to them, it'll cheaper. thanks.

Just go to the auto audio section in Walmart and look for the stereo wiring connectors and stereo mounting kit for the your 01 Honda Passport, you should find them.

For online buying, just do a search in google or yahoo to find the best deal yourself.

$50 for the labor is about right.

Does every Walmart carry the installation kit for honda passport? I look at the installationdr manual on how to install it, it doens't look complicate, I think I can do it myself and save a couple bucks. thanks for the reply

Walmart carries kits for most of the popular car and model brands. Check it out first, if you can't find your kit, then just go online.

Like I said, you will find that taking off the console bezel is the most difficult part in the whole process. The wiring part is very easy. If you can connect your home stereo system, then you can do this too. Just put the new deck on the table and the wiring kit on the table next to it, open both the deck wiring schematic and the kit wiring schematic, then all you have to do is matching up the wires.

There are 8 wires for the speakers: two for each speaker; two front speakers and two rear speakers.

There are two power wires (usually thick ones with yellow and orange or red color) and one ground wire (usually black color).

There is one wire (usually blue color) for the power antenna or auxilary amplifier, if you don't have power antenna or auxilary amplifier, you can just ignore it. But just connect the wire to the plug for the completeness sake.

After you connect all wires on your deck to the plug, just go to your car and plug it into your car's factory connector. Don't forget to plug the big antenna plug in order to receive good radio signal. That's it. Then you can turn the key on to listen to the kick-ass sound in your car the first time.

If everything works fine, then just mount the deck, assemble the console bezel back. Then you are all set.

That's it, man! You save $50 for something else. It just takes about 30 minutes of your time. I usually finish mine in 15 to 20 minutes unless I get stuck with the console bezel.
