RAV4 or CRV (my preference) is a good choice for small SUV
For regular size SUV, 4Runner is still the favorite (of most Asian people).

more like 15 mpg since the test on sticker invented 20 or so years ago, they tested @ 50 mph on highway with NO air condition, no CD/DVD player .... not realistic, they will have new standard test beginning 2008 models or so

The sticker says 20 for local and 23 for highway but he screen indicator on my 2001 is 19 mpg (matching with what I calculated gas_tank/mileage several times) based on 50/50 ratio of highway and local roads (3.5 miles from my house to highway and 3.5 miles from highway to workplace).

Bác muốn "show off" (nói thiệt tình nghen) thì đừng tính chuyện tiết kiệm xăng làm monkey gì. Chứ bác tính mua xe SUV ngon chạy xa kiểu này chừng khoảng 2 năm là mileage xe bác lên vù vù, hết giá trị. Not worth it.
Đi làm xa kiếm cái xe tàng tàng như Civic hay Corolla 4 máy là kinh tế nhất, cũng không đến nổi mất mặt bầu cua!

if you're looking for a small suv, i'll go with the rx400h, very gas sufficient, and oh my god! the power is just incredible. I'd prefer u stay away from the lexus gx470. It will eat you out alive, i have one and it sucks gas like i drink water every 5 mins. it gets around 10 mpg. But anyhow, i love it but i'd prefer the rx400h.

its not about the money that i'm mainly concerned, but getting 10 mpg is rediculous. I don't mind paying gas for it all but i'd rather buy something else for a daily driver. Well think of it this way, Lexus might seem all all fancy and all but its not. Why pay 45k for a toyota 4 runner when u can add 5k more for a lexus? ha, don't hate because u lower yourself in a degree like that. Some people are more fortunate and im' just another member trying to help out the community. Just think about, best bang for the buck. No need to show off homie.
alann
02-22-2006, 04:56 PM
not really best bang for the buck...I think bad math calculation and going after the name are the factors. 45K for a 4Runer w/full options is lots better than 50K low end Lexus w/no option or less options.
Here's your word "Lexus might seem all all fancy and all but its not." So, if it's not, why pay more for something is NOT... and they're all ACTUALLY from the same company ??? You're really contradict to yourself, ...homie !

alann, due to that comment u just had about the 45k 4 runner with fully loaded options, you're totaly wrong and u have no back up information. due to the fact that a 50k gx470 is fully loaded with rear seat entertainment, nav w/mark levingston 310 watt sound system, height control like hydrolics and kdss suspension that the gx470 will not lean how bad of a curve you're in. And not to mention that the gx470 comes STANDARD with leather and 4 wheel drive. Do some more research so that you can back up your comments.

"...10mpg for gx470?

15 mpg city
19 mpg highway
But that from "EPA-estimated ratings: 15 city/19 highway mpg. Actual mileage may vary" (I pick exact words from Lexus.com)
Whoever tell you 10mpg for GX470 on city road is reasonable. You got a built-in "Super computer" in your brain and legs to make that 19mpg on your GX. What you said is just "fantacy", even you hard make 19mpg on highway!
Sorry dude, I think you don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah 18-19mpg is incredible number for GX470 since my 2001 RX300 constantly gets 19mpg. Do you read that number from MPG screen? If I remember correctly my friend's LX470 gets about 13mpg.
I'll post a napshot of the info screen later.

Alan, do you own one to make your statement?
What part of "Actual mileage may vary" you don't understand?
Anyone gets low mileage out of their car depends on many conditions:
1) driving habits
2) road conditions
3) car conditions
RX300, your mileage is on the low side as well.
Also, LX470 (~6900 lbs) is heavier than GX470 (6200 lbs)

The Lexus.com website said: "Actual mileage may vary". (I did put the exact quote from Lexus.com)
It does NOT mean "Actual mileage is LOWER than the MFR ratings"
Again, "vary" means "higher or lower". Eventhough most of the real mileage are LOWER but it does not mean "AIN"T no way U can get HIGHER". Get my grip?

Wow, I haven't been on for a couple of days and it seems like this is crazy.
ColdWind: you have a gx470 too? I don't know about yours, but mine is killing me on gas. I doubt that it has anything to do with breaking in the engine, but i gave mine hell when i first bought it not knowning any better. I've ran mine at the tracks and everything. But on a normal day to day basics, all i do is drive to school and back and yea...I've checked yesterday and i've got 294 miles out of a 23 gallon tank. after doing the math it was about 13 mpg. And its based on 22 gallons because i've had a couple of miles left on the dash.
alann, Are you sure the x3 is cheaper than the murano? I highly doubt it. I've checked out a couple of them before. but though, the murano does have a better body style.
The murano is amazingly fast. Not faster than my heavy ass gx though. My friend has one and we've ran on the streets and on the track. I'm just surprise on what a 4.7 in a heavy ass truck like mine can do. I've also took my baby off roading too. Handles well. Thats where all the comparisons come in to play. 4x4 equiped 4-runners and 4x4 dodge rams couldn't go through some of the mudd that i've went in.

I just pick that up from edmunds.com. After picking up most important options for both models, the price came out with very competitive number, not cheaper, but it was very close. If I did write it cheaper, I was wrong. Try and see.

azntg4boi:
13mpg is on the low side of mileage.
It depends on many things (as I said in previous posts)
1) mechanical condition
2) road condition
3) driving habit
All of these added up can kill your mileage.
FYI, you should never run your tank down like that.
I normally fill up when it hits about 1/4
I get ~280mi for ~16gal refilled.

Yea, as i do live in the country. I just recently moved from ATL to Al. The only reason why i bought the gx because of its campability on the dirt roads and all that stuff. Much safer. But i never included the factor of gas. Well i don't always run it down like that. Only reason why is because i wanted to see what i'm actually getting.
